George grew up in
Mobile, Alabama. He started his musical career in the 7th grade when
he formed a band to enter a junior high school talent show. The band
won the talent show and from that point on he was hooked on a
lifetime involvement with music.
During junior high school, high school and college, George played in several bands in Mobile including the Midnight Ramblers, The Rivieras and the Velvets. During these years, there were engagements nearly every weekend playing for proms, school events and fraternity/sorority parties. It was during this period that George developed a life long love for r&b and beach music…and specifically a fascination with the music of Otis Redding who is still his musical idol to this day. During the late 60’s, George crossed paths with the Pieces of Eight when two of his band mates joined the Pieces. And one of his friends and fraternity brother joined the Pieces organization as road manager. George dropped out of the music scene for 12 years in order to persue graduate and post graduate studies. After graduating from the University of South Alabama with a BS degree in chemistry, he earned a masters degree in human anatomy, a doctor of dental medicine degree and completed a residency in periodontology…at the University of Alabama in Birmingham Medical Center. After establishing periodontal practices in Birmingham and Gadsden, Alabama, music came calling again in his life. While practicing periodontology full time, on the weekends George toured with the Tyn Tymes for several years. After coming off the road with the TT, he joined forces with musical legend Foxxy Fats to form Foxxy Fats and Company which played corporate and wedding events in Alabama for several years. George now plays alto and tenor saxes in one of the best party bands of all time…The Pieces of Eight. Outside of music, his hobbies include water sports, mountain biking, weight training, horses and restoring classic British sports cars.
